A COUPLE OF NEW RESOURCES Via BLOGS

Yes, I found a couple of blogs that share sources tons and tons of sources,

Crestleaf Blog has many tips and hints and suggestions for us to think about.
The link is called the Crestleaf Blog.  I loved the article on the difference between a Family Historian and a Genealogist.

Another topic was 6 Steps to Saving Water-Damaged Family Photos.

There was one on Adoptions, and things we should know also.

Another one I like to follow is :
My Genealogy Hound                                        a free service provided by Hearthstone Legacy Publications

You can browse by surname, by state, county.

Yes they do sell things also but maps from 1820 of England, Scotland and Ireland  only $9.95.

Lots of information to browse through.

Genealogy 102 by Randy Seaver, Shirley Becker and Susi Pentico, For All as Refresher

Genealogy 102 by Randy Seaver, Shirley Becker and Susi Pentico, For All as Refresher

Here is what Randy wrote regarding the class. So if you want to refresh and recall and go forward fresh and avoid bad habits created, please attend.  We are creatures of rote.

Hi genies,

We had a successful Genealogy 101 class last week, and this Thursday is the Genealogy 102 class on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bonita-Sunnyside Library in the Community Room.

The Genealogy 102 Class is about where to search - repositories and websites, and what to search for - genealogy resources. The emphasis is on USA resources and San Diego area repositories.  We will provide a handout and also a research checklist.

This class should be of interest to all CVGS members, not just beginners.  If you want a refresher on the where and what, please plan to attend.  We need to know how many to plan for, so please register your attendance on the CVGS website -- www.cvgenealogy.org -- in the Events tab.

Cheers -- Randy Seaver

This class will start at 1 pm promptly.  You will need to bring the same items you brought to the last class and we trust you did your homework and are excited about becoming a better genealogist/historian.

This class is free.  Bonita-Sunnyside Library  in Conference Room.

Bonita-Sunnyside Library Community Room, 4375 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902

 Watch for the Blue Ribbons.

Please register if you can or call me Susi  619 623 5250.

Chula Vista, San Diego, National City, Lemon Grove, Imperial Beach area etc, Genealogists Heads Up

We are having Shirley Becker do a presentation on the great state of New York at the Lemon Grove Library this coming Wednesday evening.  She has much data as a native of the state and many years of research.  She has spoken on the topic before and we asked her for more.  She is a Past President of our Society and retired Newspaper Editor before Randy took it. The time is 6 to almost 8 pm. Lemon Grove Library.

We are also putting together a Genealogy 101 class as a refresher course and a new researchers course.  Thursday 1 to 3 pm Bonita-Sunnyside Library, Bonita, CA.

You may say you do not need such a course, but do you still have brick walls that just do not tumble down? Remembering we are people of Rote, yes we repeat our motions constantly.  So are you not realizing you may be repeating a minor error to lead you down the wrong lane?

Do not sell your self short when this course may be the beginnings of new and better findings in your research.

At least come and give it a try, you may find  a minor change makes a major difference.

If you are thinking of doing research on your family or your family's history you may find this the best thing since sliced bread for getting good knowledge on how to start and keep track of  your records and data and information that will be shared and collected.

When we keep it together and in order it is easier to follow and minor details do not slip through the cracks quite as quick.

You do not need a computer to attend the classes. Just a few pencils and erasers and paper and 3 ring binder type of stuff to start.

Why all the way back to that you  say.  Because when you write it you remember it better. It helps your brain to pick up on tips you otherwise may miss. That is not the only reason.

Give it some serious thought and come learn lots of ideas and how to implement them.

You may go to our web page and sign up for any of the up coming events.  We hope to see your faces there. If you are not sure how come anyway and we can help you learn how.

Are You Working with Geni.com or MyHeritage.com?

If you are working with either of these programs you should be reading the information that Judy
Russell is discussing on her blog.

I am supplying the link here and you should probably go back to two earlier reports to follow through.

Some very interesting reading and I have found some of it within my reporting on MyHeritage.com.

The Legal Genealogist: MyHeritage and Geni: Part I

Suspecting many of us should be following her blog for even general information.
