We are looking for a new meeting home but have not made any decisions yet.
Until that is done we will stay at the Lemon Grove Library.  We do meet now only
the 3rd Wed evening of every month.

Hot off the Presses. You should check this out. NGS CONFERENCE DATA

First I will say Judy Russell sent us information via her blog:The Legal Genealogist: Conferencing continues

Then within the blog she shared with us how we can actually enjoy some of the conference that we could not get to attend.

Please read Judy's blog first then go to the second link to get the information on listening to the live feed of these topics.

I was sad to see John Colletta was not part of the group but that is okay.
Five of the live stream speakers I am familiar with.  3 I have associated with for years.

Please check this all out.

(And even if you didn’t sign up before… even if you missed it all… you can still see those presentations in what’s now called NGS On Demand.)

from Judy's  post.

We also will meet Wednesday at the library in Lemon Grove.  We will talk about Evernote,
 Thanks.

Our guest speaker will be Gena Philibert-Ortega.  She is a neighbor from the north of us, she wrote a cook book about Recipes and Ancestors.  So you have heard of her before, do come enjoy the morning.

The society has refreshments and raffles and it is always a great time to meet other genealogists.

Gena's topics will be:

1st Session

HIT THE BOOKS!  UTILIZING DIGITIZED BOOKS ONLINE.
Many researchers use the digitalized form of research and they access is almost limitless.  They can come from free sites, subscription sites, websites, etc.
She will be discuss digitized book websites, how to navigate them and find the information you need.

2nd session

READ ALL ABOUT IT: YOUR ANCESTORS IN THE NEWSPAPER.
One of the best sources for information on your ancestors is the newspaper.  Newspapers are
great equalizers for the rich and the poor, they all get mentioned generally.  She will show us how to get more out of reading those papers, ie scanning the pages with the eye.  In this presentation we will look at where to find newspapers, search strategies and the types of articles that can help benefit your research.

Catching Up, Slowing Down and Turning Around

Greetings Everyone,

Having been away for a month near, going to try to bring you up to speed.

No, I am not going to Jamboree this year. Two graduations right in the middle of this grand occasion.
May sneak away one day with friend but at this time not looking like available.

Ordered new books from Leland before I left. We will cover some of that new information down the rocky road.

Graced the halls of the great Michigan Archives for a few hours one day. The head Archivist is a very pleasant person. He shares his information and the staff is great also.

Found it interesting they do not catalog their books like our society does.  So he could not provide me with a list of a specific state.  I can access it and work through to find the answers on line.  Yes, you can access this information from the desk in your home with your laptop.

You do not even need a Michigan State Library card which I have.

My son took a day off work and we drove up the west coast of Michigan to Grand Haven and looked at a lot of frozen Lake Michigan.  I saw different country side and Grand Rapids is a busy, rapidly growing place.  Possibly because it does not rely on the auto  industry to survive.  I really liked the area but am sure it is colder than the southern part of Michigan.  Nor did I realize,  really dawn on me that we were only about half way up Michigan and it curves over and links to Wisconsin.

I am hoping to check square mileage of Michigan against California.  It was still cold and snow in the ditches and rills on the countryside.  Flowers had not yet began to peak up from the frozen grown.

Was hoping Holland would have had some activity but it also was very plain waiting for enough sun to get the flowers going.  We saw one hot house very large with what was probably tulips in it.

Now you need to know Virginia has released and is releasing more birth records for people to access.
The link is here.  Thanks Leland for this news.
